RYA Adult Dinghy Levels
All RYA Adult Levels are €195. Course dates are displayed in the calendar below.
General Course Information: The minimum age for any RYA Adult Level 16 years old. Each course last for 2 days with the course timings running 09:30 – 17:30 unless stated otherwise at time of booking. All courses run to a max instructor to student ratio of 1:6 with students being assessed continuously throughout the course. No prior reading required.

Level 1 - Start Sailing
Course Content: This course provides a short introduction to dinghy sailing for novices through the basic understanding of handling techniques and background knowledge.
Ability after the Course: Have a basic sailing knowledge and be able to sail in light sailing conditions under supervision.
Prior Experience: None required.
Course Materials Provided: RYA National Sailing Scheme Syllabus and Logbook (G4)

Level 2 - Basic Sailing
Course Content: The course will cover how to: rig a sailing boat, launch, sail in all directions and recover a capsize.
Ability after the Course: On completion of this course, you will have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in good conditions.
Prior Experience: It will be assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge for a Level 1 course.

Level 3 - Better Sailing
Course Content: The course will cover coaching of level 1 and 2 skills and taster of the advanced modules.
Ability after the Course: On completion of the course the successful sailor will be safety conscious and capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light and moderate conditions. Level 3 is intended to make the transition easier for those sailors wishing to progress further through the scheme, allowing for the opportunity to practice and consolidate sailing techniques and experience some of the activities the advanced modules have to offer, helping to build confidence and support development of good technique and independent sailing.
Prior Experience: A good sailing knowledge and boat handling skills, or Level 2 equivalent
